~ Winter Policies ~
Freezing temperatures can cause serious damage to campground water and septic systems. In order to protect campground systems, the following Winter Policies are in effect, in addition to the terms and conditions included in the Guest Agreement:
- Guests without a winterized water hydrant and without a heated water hose MUST turn off the campground water hydrant AND disconnect the water hose from the water hydrant, when the Weather Channel temperature forecast for Gretna VA will be at or below 32° F. The water turn off and hose disconnect MUST occur no later than 9:00 PM, or whenever the temperature is at or below 32° F, whichever is earlier.
- Guests may leave the campground water hydrant on, when the Weather Channel temperature forecast for Gretna VA will be between 21° F and 32° F, only if Leesville Lake Campground winterizes the water hydrant (fee) AND the guest uses a heated water hose (available at the Campground Store). Guests may NOT winterize campground water hydrants! The water hydrant heat cable and heated hose MUST both be connected to electric.
- When the Weather Channel temperature forecast for Gretna VA will be at or below 20° F, ALL GUESTS MUST turn off the water hydrant, AND disconnect the water hose from the water hydrant. The water turn off and hose disconnect MUST occur no later than 9:00 PM, or whenever the temperature is at or below 20° F, whichever is earlier. This policy applies to ALL sites, even if winterized. Leesville Lake Campground will turn off the main water supplies, to help protect our systems. If the temperatures remain at or below 20° F overnight for several days, we may leave our main water supplies turned off and have scheduled times that we will turn on water. Leesville Lake Campground will email water schedules, as needed.
- ALL GUESTS MUST turn off the water hydrant, AND disconnect the water hose from the water hydrant, when away from the campground for longer than 24 hours or during power outages. This policy applies to ALL sites, even if winterized.
- External water filters, Y connectors and pressure regulators are prohibited during winter months.
- The bathhouse and laundry may be closed during freezing temperatures.
- The Virginia Department of Health does not allow waste water to drain onto the ground, and a broken sewer hose, due to freezing and bursting, will cause that to happen. The registered guest is responsible for any fees, fines or penalties associated with waste water going onto the ground.
- Per the Guest Agreement, any damage to campground property, caused by a guest, or guest’s family member, or guest’s visitor, will be repaired at the registered guest’s expense. This includes water and/or septic system damage, caused by failure to follow the Winter Policies.
